Hello, World!

Southeast Texas ACA is working to create a go-to place for our recovery community during the COVID-19 crisis. Click on the drop-down menu for links to local online meetings and a list of timely topics from our ACA literature (both work-in-progress). We may add shares from fellow travelers as we talk, trust, and feel our way through this crisis as our true selves.

If you're out there and reading, please drop a comment. It's a giant graffiti wall: you can let people know you are here.

  1. "What a long, strange trip it's been!" As the pandemic appears to be winding down in my little corner of the world, it feels a bit like driving out of the fog. Another whole new world, full of light, color, and adventure is unfolding in the post-pandemic Universe.

The pandemic's overshadowed 15 months of my life, necessitating the need for a world of adaptations and changes. I kinda think that the only constant in the Universe is change. Every molecule in our Universe changes in some way, every moment... and my dysfunctional upbringing taught me to hang on to the way things are. I had the rhythm, knew the specific rules to survive, and had found ways to get survive horrific events. So, growing up in my own ACA story, I grew up resisting change. Once I had things figured out, had learned how to survive, manipulate, avoid, adapt, and con, I held on to those skils. They enabled me to survive and gave me some semblance of hope.

In my ACA recovery, I've learned to accept that everything is constantly changing and to embrace the changes and grow with them. This past 15 months has allowed me to grow and change in ways I never thought possible. I learned new technology skills, upgraded my skills at growing healthy food at home, found whole new ways to relate to people electronically, and found new ways to avoid isolation in an isolated world... a world essentially locked down!

...and, I learned how to find and build my recovery via the online experience and met some amazing folks from around the world who brought me new and life-changing insights along the way!

I gained much more from the pandemic than I would have thought. Rather than shrinking back in fear and isolation, I moved ahead, learning, growing, and building. Thanks to my HP, my fellow travellers, and this program, I'm feeling more confident about each day. What a gift! Thanks!
