PowerPoint Slide Decks from the World Convention

Hello Fellow Travelers! The ACA World Convention on-line this weekend was a well-run and enriching recovery experience. The World Service Organization (WSO) has graciously made the slide decks available from presentations that had one. In exciting news, the WSO is taking seriously the need for an inner-child-friendly introduction to ACA that respects Tony A's insights and addresses the basic problems of the traditional steps for a wounded child. WSO is developing a new publication, Getting Started, to meet that need. Because of the interest in the Houston area, I've included a separate link to the slide deck for Getting Started.

Recovery Book Review: Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents

During the COVID lock-downs I've done some recovery reading. My current book is Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents by Lindsay Gibson (New Harbinger Publications, 2015). Usual disclaimer: The views expressed here are the author's personal views. Also, as this blog belongs to a 12-Step/12-Tradition organization, we are not engaged in affiliate linking or any promotional or revenue-sharing scheme. There is no financial interest in this book review. The book's title attracted me because it's exactly on-theme for my recovery goals. The book's early chapters -- which I think of as "The Problem" chapters -- focused on the immature parents. Here the author presents an often-harsh, frequently "other-izing" view. I expect that I looked at my parents that way before I had adult children of my own. Now, having my own parenting mistakes and having been immature (ACA) as I raised my own children, I found "The Problem" chapters with ...

Hello, World!

Southeast Texas ACA is working to create a go-to place for our recovery community during the COVID-19 crisis. Click on the drop-down menu for links to local online meetings and a list of timely topics from our ACA literature (both work-in-progress). We may add shares from fellow travelers as we talk, trust, and feel our way through this crisis as our true selves. If you're out there and reading, please drop a comment. It's a giant graffiti wall: you can let people know you are here.
